Modern and Retro create a timeless piece. The Barcelona Chair and Ottoman

We just love classic furniture and adore the timeless quality of the Barcelona chair. This chair was originally designed back in 1929, when the renewed Bauhaus architect Mies Van der Rohe collaborated with Lilly Reich. This chair quickly became an icon of modernism and
the Barcelona chair is now one of our showcase pieces.

It’s a piece that is both trendy in design and yet very functional. Anyone seated in the chair will enjoy the comfort that the chair offers, plus the feeling of safety that envelopes one while seated.

The design is both modern and retro in nature. The use of minimalist and sleek lines shows its trendiness, while the quilted cushion design is reminiscent of the design features of furniture in the 1960s and 1970s.

The solid stainless steel legs are sleekly curved, thus making the perfect combination with the quilt design. One will not find any screws or bolts that could be potential sources of injuries to the users. The back cushion of the chair is bound to its support by thick leather straps that are guaranteed not to sag or have molds despite the passage of time.

Any current or potential owner of the Barcelona chair will see that it is a good investment that will give the owner many, many days and nights of pleasure, safety and comfort to last perhaps a lifetime.

How to choose the right office chair?

Sitting might seem to be the easiest thing in the world, but sitting all day long in front of a computer screen can cause back pains and spinal damage. That is why we have to put in some thought when choosing an office chair.

There is a wide selection of agronomic office chairs that can support your body and help you keep a healthy posture. Here are a couple of tips that can help you choose the right chair:

• Remember that a high price tag doesn’t mean that the chair is agronomic or even comfortable. Research the market, learn about chair manufacturers, know your needs and only then go chair shopping.
• While leather chair may sound “luxurious” you should know that the material absorbs heat quickly, which can make the chair pretty uncomfortable.
• A chair with a plastic base can easily bend or break. Aluminum is considered to be the best choice for people who work at different stations and need a light, yet durable material.
• The ideal chair will allow you to sit straight and firmly place your feet on the ground. If you can’t get to this posture - this is not the chair for you.

Think about the Think Chair

When you call your chair a Think Chair, there’s better be something to back it up with. We took a quick look into Steelcase’s Think Chair and this is what we’ve found:

It seems that the Think Chair is more than just a chair. It might look like a normal office chair but this one has brain and a conscience. No kiddin’ guys, the chair is intelligent enough to understand how you sit and adjust itself intuitively and it is also thoughtful enough to measure and minimize its lifelong impact on the environment – it’s up to 98% recyclable by weight.

The chair’s innovative flexors system tracks the individual movement of your spine and pelvis. The back flexors are individually shaped to the human form to provide optimum support for each area of the back. Seat flexors conform to your shape, providing a dynamic comfort pocket. You've never been more flexed in your entire life.

The chair’s intelligence is created with the Your Power Mechanism that moves as fluidly as the human body does. It provides recline support in proportion to your own body weight, while keeping you oriented to your work. When you recline or lean forward, the seat edge flexes to relieve pressure on the back of the legs.

The Vers 2X - Superior quality with innovative design

The number one objective of any speaker designer in developing a pure sound, is wrapping the speakers with a good enclosure that delivers clean and crisp music, without adding or subtracting to the natural sound of the speakers.

“Technology can make simple things complicated or complicated things simple. We prefer the latter.”

That’s the motto behind Human Scale’s Freedom Chair, now available at Esca Designs. Winner of 10 design awards to date – the Freedom chair has revolutionized the task chair industry. Freedom doesn’t mean that it’s got the American Flag plastered on it – it means that the chair is designed to give the maximum ergonomic benefit to the sitter with a minimum number of manually-adjusted controls. Think of how much time you spend pushing and puling handles, before you can find that comfortable posture. Well, just like a self winding watch, the movement idea is imbedded into the chair. Movement, which is essential for a healthy body, shouldn't be constricted by locking mechanisms and manual controls. In other words, sitting comfortably isn't something you should have to think about. If you want to recline – just go for it. If you want to lower the handles – then do it. The chair will change according to your movements.

You don't have to be a movie star to get that movie star comfort you deserve. Just log on to www.escadesigns.com and give some freedom to your back.

Room within a Room

You appreciate industrial design as much as you appreciate art. You know that a chair isn’t just made out of four legs and a seat. No. It’s made out of thought and innovation. Take the Ball Chair for example. Classic and iconic, the ball chair was designed in 1963 by the Finnish furniture designer Eero Aarnio. The original design of this chair was known as a "room within a room" and it is great for relaxing, reading or taking a long phone call. You will get a sense of privacy in the Ball Chair and even feel safe and protected in this womb like environment. The rotating axis provides serenity when facing a wall or a more friendly approach when turning towards your guests. As a retro piece, this chair is a real attention getter, at your home, office, or bar/club. Everyone who walks in will want a picture with this chair and its fiberglass glossy shell. The chair is easy to maintain, comes in three colors and high-density quality foam cushions that are removable for cleaning.

Posture and Back Pain

Lately, I have been suffering from back pains. My husband likes to sleep with the air conditioner on and I thought this might be the reason. We tried to sleep a few nights without the AC but it didn’t seem to help. When I was sitting in my office the other week, googeling “back pains,” I came across some helpful information. Sitting might seem to be the easiest thing in the world, but there is actually a lot to know about, especially when it comes to posture. I found out that overtime, back pains and damage to the spinal structure can result from poor posture at the office or at home. So the first thing I did was to try and sit straight in my chair. It’s not easy. Especially when I got so used to slouching over the computer desk. But after a while it did feel better to sit up straight. I even felt that I look better, more confident. Now I have this routine and every 30 minuets I get up and stretch or just walk around the room, just to keep the systems going. I also asked my boss to purchase new chairs. It turns out that there are a lot of agronomic office chairs that can support our body and help us keep a healthy posture. Until the new chairs arrive, I found that putting a small pillow on the chair, helps to reduce the load off the spine. Try it, you won’t be sorry.

Herman Miller Office Chairs with Posture Fit

The differences between a normal office and a Herman Miller luxury office chairs are endless. However, the most important difference is the health benefits.

Above is the Herman Miller Aeron loaded with posturefit. Posturefit provides a natural and custom fitted support for the lower back (below the beltline) for health posture and lower back support. The high and wide contoured back actually takes the weight off of the lower spine for support and comfort.

Working in the office all day, at a desk, performing repetitive tasks can be very detrimential to your health. This chair not only incorporates lower spine support but is also easy on the arms and reduces pressure under the thigh for increased blood circulation.

So how did this amazing technology come to be? In November of 2000 Brian Walker, Herman Miller North America President, called Dr. Brock Walter, a back care specialist. Working together with Bill Stumpf, co-desiger of the Aeron chair, the Aeron was born.

Herman Miller Chairs Can Help Health Care Reforms?

One ongoing discussion from the federal government about health care reform to require a new measure of standard to hold facilities and workers up to that could measure the quality not quantity of health care. I think all of us are ready for health care reform, but health care workers also need more comfortable environments to work. According to the CDC 70 percent of worker injuries in the hospital who went to the doctor suffered from musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) which are caused by overexertion or repetive motions.

At Esca designs, we understand how important a good office chair is, and there is nothing better than our selection of Herman Miller Chairs. Herman Millier office chairs take ergonomics seriously by providing workers with an environment that is applicable to the tasks they perform. And that's exactly what their chairs do. If you are uncomfortable at work, no matter if you work in an office or on the field, a good office chair can make a huge difference.

For example, try this Herman Miller Aeron Chair which combines concept and comfort by distributing weight over the seat and back, permitting air circulation, and it was designed using 66% recycled materials:

Go ahead, take the Herman Miller challenge, you'll never go back to your old chair again.
